Frequently Asked Questions

New to dancing? Planning a wedding? Not a wedding couple but just want to dance like one? Not even sure what you should be asking? You’re in the right place.

Need them? No.

But there’s a big difference between getting through your first dance, and actually enjoying it.

One of our grooms put it perfectly: dance lessons let you be in the moment instead of trying to get through the moment.

You’ve planned everything else. This is one part of the wedding you actually get to experience together.

And yes, you can hug and rock. We just think you deserve better.

You don’t need to know that before you come in. That’s what I’m here for.

Your first lesson gives me a chance to see how you move together, understand your goals and timeline, and learn what you want your dance to feel like.

From there, I’ll recommend what it will take to get you there.

More time gives us more opportunity to make your dancing comfortable, confident, and natural. And, we’ll make the best of whatever time you have available.

Sooner is better. But start when you can.

Starting earlier gives us more time to learn comfortably, build confidence, and add polish without feeling rushed.

Wedding coming up quickly? Don’t panic. We’ll prioritize the things that will make the biggest difference with the time you have.

No, we teach everyone who wants to learn how to dance!

Wedding couples are a big part of what we do, but plenty of people learn simply because dancing is a wonderful thing to know how to do together.

Most of our Sunday Group Dance students, and even some of our private lesson students,  aren't planning weddings at all. They're learning because it's fun, social, and a great hobby to share.

Bring your dancing shoes.  No wedding required.

Absolutely.

You can take as few or as many lessons as you want.

In your first lesson, we can get you moving together, introduce basic timing, and begin working on lead and follow.

Additional lessons give us time to make everything feel more natural, add moves and transitions, and work on things like your entrance, ending, styling, dips, or other special moments.

There isn’t a shortcut that turns ten hours of learning into two — but we can make every hour count.

Perfect. Most people haven’t.

You do not need rhythm, experience, flexibility, or any idea what you’re doing before you walk through the door.

Teaching beginners is what Beginning Ballroom has been doing since 2002.

We’ll start with the first step.

Also completely normal.

Often one person is excited and the other is thinking: “Please don't make me look ridiculous.”

We won’t.

Lessons are private, relaxed, and built around the two of you. You’re not expected to already know how to dance.

That’s why you’re taking lessons.

That depends on your music, your personalities, and what you want your dancing to feel like.

Already have a song? We'll figure out what dance fits it.

Know you want to Rumba, Swing, Two-Step, Waltz, or learn another dance? We can help you find music that works.

Not sure about either one? That's fine too. We'll figure it out together.

Absolutely.

Your song should feel like you -- but it also needs a rhythm and tempo that work for dancing.

Bring us the songs you're considering, or tell us what kind of music you love. We'll help you find the right fit.

Song and dance consulting is included with your lessons.

No.

Some couples want a beautifully simple dance where they can lead and follow naturally.

Others want choreography, an entrance, a dip, a dramatic ending, or a few surprise moments.

Your dance should look and feel like you -- not like somebody else's wedding video.

We'll build it accordingly.

Of course.

Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, or any other special dance can be as simple or as polished as you want it to be.

These moments matter too -- and a little preparation can make them much easier to enjoy.

No wedding tax here.

We don't charge you more for a private lesson simply because the dance happens to be for your wedding.

First, we talk.

We’ll discuss your goals, music, timeline, experience, and what you want your dancing to feel like.

Then we dance.

You’ll start learning together during that very first visit.

By the end of the lesson, you’ll have a much better idea of what’s possible — and I’ll give you my recommendation for where we go from there.

No pressure. No need to figure everything out before you arrive.

Just ask. There are no stupid dance questions, and you don't need to know exactly what you want before contacting us.
